Two incumbent members of the USD 410 Board of Education went down in defeat Tuesday along with the proposed 1-mil recreation levy. In Tuesday's balloting by voters, Loren Nuss defeated incumbent Dalmer Kaufman, Eloise Jost defeated incumbent Marvin Ratzlaff.

Janet Metzger's request for early release from her sixth grade teaching contract was denied by USD 410

Board of Education at a special meeting. About 20 parents and students attended the session in addition to the board.

Tuesday evening overnight guests at the Truman Diener home were Mrs. Rosalie Bryan, Mrs. Glenice Myers, and LeeVern Wiebe, all of Denver, Colo.

Bob Harms, son of Rev. and Mrs. Orlando Harms of Hillsboro, has been appointed to the history faculty at Yale University, where he will teach courses and supervise research on the history of Africa. He is currently visiting lecturer in African History at the University of Calif., Berkeley. He is a graduate of Hillsboro High School and Tabor College.

Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. James Thiessen, Michelle and Marilyn were Mr. and Mrs. Tom Frantz and Martha Frantz. They celebrated the birthdays of Jim Thiessen and Martha Frantz.

Kathy Jones, the only person who filed for the east ward city council position, staved off a last-minute write-in campaign for James C. Baker to win the race.
