The 25th wedding anniversary of Art and Harriet Suderman will be celebrated at their home from 2-5 p.m. Aug. 12. Hosting the occasion will be their children: Glenn Suderman, Garnett; Scott and Debi Foth, Kerman, Calif.; Louis and Lori Thurston, Emporia; David Suderman, Hillsboro; and Roxi Suderman, Hillsboro.
Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Loewen visited their children, the Rev. Walter Webers of Eureka, S.D., recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Malvin Schmidt and Malvina, Jerry Schimdt of Salina, and Leroy Schmidt of Derby returned home Thursday evening from a trip through the western states and parts of Canada. While in Canada, they visited their cousins Mr. and Mrs. David Ratzloff, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Pauls, and Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bartel in Calgary, Alberta.
Hillsboro City Council appointed three department heads at its regular meeting. Barney McCarty, who had served five years as lieutenant in the police department, was appointed chief of police; Bud Kelsey, who has served in the capacity for nearly a year, was officially appointed public works director; and Richard Pence was named electrical line superintendent.
A new insurance office is planned for early fall construction on a two-lot plot of ground at U.S. 56 Highway and Floral Drive, according to M.P. Thompson, State Farm insurance agent.
Sunday evening, the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church had a farewell for Pastor and Mrs. Loyal Martin who were serving here for six weeks while Pastor and Mrs. Richard Wieneke, Jonathan and Beverly were at Fresno, Calif., at the seminary.
Mrs. Bob Yevak of Emporia spent the week helping her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Medley, work in their new home.
