Mr. and Mrs. Marvin E. Penner celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Oct. 7 at an open house given by their children. The former Lavina Schultz and Penner were married in Hillsboro Oct. 1, 1939.
The Durham and Hillsboro elementary students will have Halloween parades Oct. 31. Durham elementary students, led by the fifth and sixth grade band, will parade down Main Street in Durham at 1 p.m. Hillsboro elementary students, led by the junior high band, will march down Main Street at 2 p.m.
The Tabor College football team pulled off a sluggish but nevertheless decisive win over Sterling College Oct. 13. The 23-13 victory was the highlight of the school's homecoming weekend and a high point in Tabor football history. The Bluejays have clinched their first ever winning football season, going 6-1 overall up to this point and 6-0 in KCAC.
Seventy-year-old Jake Entz rode his bicycle from Hillsboro to South Dakota. Entz decided to take the trip just to see if he could do it. The 360-mile trip took him four days and he averaged 70 miles per day. He took a sleeping bag and slept in abandoned buildings on his way to South Dakota.
A musical coffee break is planned Saturday at First National Bank. Featured on the program will be violinist Ferdinand Graevs and daughter Evelyn Graevs Flaming, pianist.
Financial reports from officers of Tip Top Credit Union will highlight the annual meeting of Tip Top Credit Union. Tip Top showed total income of $2,380,637.19 during the past year. Assets of the financial institution increased to $25,197,891.84. In its 32nd year, Tip Top completed construction of a new home office in Hillsboro.
