Mr. and Mrs. Menno Harder had as their dinner guests Monday evening Elaine Martens, St. Anns Ontario, Canada; Pam Voth, Karl Herr, Byron Lange, Tabor College students; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lange and Wendy; and Mr. and Mrs. Andy Friesen and Shelley.
Doug Wiens started out in the safe environs of Hillsboro. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1966 and from Tabor college in 1970. He has traveled northern-most lands and highest mountains during the past eight years. He was home last week to visit his mother, Mrs. Jake Entz. He and three other men made history when they scaled the highest peak in North America — Mount McKinley.
There's no more room at the top in the Mid-Kansas League football race as six teams share first place following two upsets Friday night. Halstead and Inman went into Friday night play with unblemished 2-0 marks, but both were upset forcing the six-way tie. Moundridge used long scoring plays to upset Halstead, while Garth Ediger kicked a crucial extra point to give Hillsboro a 14-13 overtime win over Inman.
USD 410 will continue to feel the squeeze of final pressures in the years to come. And, more than likely, it will get worse instead of better. That's the grim prediction the board of education received from one of its financial consultants. Continued enrollment decreases and rising inflation make it tough for many schools to come up with the funds to meet their operating expenses.
