Three people have filed so far for the two Hillsboro City Council positions up for election March 4. In the East Ward, incumbent Dean Schroeder and M.P. Thompson have filed; in the west Ward, incumbent Allen Funk has filed.

Approximately 110 Marion County residents attended Tuesday night's design public hearing for the proposed 14.3-mile stretch of U.S.-56 highway from K-15 intersection northwest of Hillsboro to K-150/U.S.-77 junction three miles northeast of Marion. Bob Anderson, 2nd district engineer from Salina, told those present that the meeting was designed to be an exchange of ideas for the highway proposal.

Rev. Marvin Hein, pastor of Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church the past 20 years, will address the third annual meeting of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at the First National Bank community room. Hein served as associate pastor for three years before accepting the pastorate.

Martin Jost took the numbers down at Cooperative Grain and Supply in Hillsboro. The market board was empty Monday and Tuesday as a result of the Russian grain sale embargo imposed by President Carter last week as a way of taking action against the USSR for their invasion of Afghanistan. No buying and trading was taking place on the local level, but Jost said the market might open some time Wednesday. He would not speculate on what the prices would be once operations resumed.

Shirley Clark scored 19 points and Becky Carlson added 16 to lead the Tabor College women's basketball team to a 67-53 thrashing of Friends University Jan. 8. The Tabor women's basketball team never had a losing season during the 1970's. One of their top recruits, Jenny Vogts, is also used to winning. Three of the four years Vogts played at Moundridge, they went to the state tournament.
