Mr. and Mrs. Marvin E. Penner celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Oct. 7 at an open house given by their children. The former Lavina Schultz and Penner were married in Hillsboro Oct. 1, 1939.

Marlys Penner, Artist of the Month, was at the Durham and Hillsboro elementary schools Tuesday. She demonstrated the equipment and materials necessary to paint with water colors and oils. Penner's paintings are on display at both schools.

A Phone Shop for the Hillsboro exchange costumes of United Telephone company will have its grand opening Thursday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The shop, located at 129 N. Main, Hillsboro, will feature a wide variety of color telephones in many styles and shapes to complements the interior of any home. The office will be staffed by Beverly Stotts.

Mr. and Mrs. Don Wright, Hillsboro, announce the birth of their daughter, Teresa Marie, born Oct. 18 at Bethel Hospital in Newton. Teresa weighed 7 pounds. She and her 14-month-old brother, Benjamin Caleb, are the grandchildren of Dorothy Schmidt of Hillsboro and Mr. and Mrs. Don Wright Sr., of Locust Grove, Okla.

City council members granted Hillsboro Golf Association a $1,000 subsidy for 1980. The subsidy was granted to raise the salary of greenskeeper Randy Kyle.

Dr. and Mrs. Kenneth Neufeld, Kathy and Lori, Hillsboro, were hosts for a family reunion in their home Nov. 4.

Two Hillsboro authors will be feted at an autograph party Friday, Nov. 9, at Mennonite Brethren Bookstore, 135 N. Main. Katie Wiebe and Esther Vogt will autograph copies of their most recent books: "Women among the Brethren" and "Mystery at Red Rock Canyon."
