Timothy and Willabeth Rowe of Anchorage, Alaska, announce the birth of a daughter, Reagan Leah, born Oct. 28. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. William Meier of Hillsboro. Great-grandparents are Mrs. Martha Schroeder and Ed Geis of Hillsboro.
Strassburg and Emmanuel Baptist churches combined services Nov. 5 in the evening to welcome their new minister, the Rev. James A. Brygger, and his wife. The minister comes to the area from Sibley, Iowa. He and his wife Ingrid have moved to Marion. They have two grown sons.
Mr. and Mrs. Esra P. Barkman will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open hose Nov. 19 at Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church in Hillsboro. Hosting the occasion will be their children: Paul and Barbara Barkman of Longmont, Colo., Richard and Joyce Barkman of Hillsboro, Jim and Margert Barkman of Hillsboro, and Bob and Lucy Spohn of Milpitas, Calif.
Eldon Pankratz of Hillsboro was recently re-elected president of the Marion County Fair Association at its re-organization meeting. Other officers re-elected were Clark Wiebe, vice president, and Bud Bruce, secretary-treasurer.
Approval for a 50-50 funding arrangement with the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce for new Christmas decorations for the downtown was voiced by the Hillsboro City Council at their Tuesday night meeting. Irv Schroeder presented a proposal for 40 pole-mounted lantern decorations for Main and Grand streets in the downtown area. The units will run about $5,420. The project is part of a long-range plan to install Christmas decorations in the downtown area as well as along other main business arteries like the highway and Ash Street.
