Carolyn Dian Weber is Salem Hospital's first baby of the year. Her parents, Bernard and Donna Weber of Florence welcomed her on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 1:27 p.m. Carolyn weighed 7 pounds and nine ounces. Two sisters await her at home, Sheila, 10 and Julie, 3. Dr. G. George Ens was the attending physician.
This week the Star-Journal begins carrying a column on Kansas government and politics written by Lynn Hellebust, editor of the Kansas Legislative Report and former executive director of the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission.
Change must come or we die, Rev. Marvin Hein, pastor of the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church, told the Chamber of Commerce Tuesday night. Rev. Hein was guest speaker at the chamber's annual meeting which drew approximately 138 to the Community Room of the First National Bank. The dinner meeting also included the transition from the 1979 president, Don Klassen, to the 1980 president, Delores Dalke.
The American Historical Society of Germans from Russia (AHSGR) will be holding their first meeting of 1980 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 901 S. Market, Wichita. Tables will be set up to help those interested in genealogy studies, and there will be people available to assist and inform how different resources can be used.
The Lucky Five — Durham, Hillsboro bowling team won first place for the second consecutive year at the third annual Light Capital Tournament in McPherson Dec. 1 and 2. Team members were awarded $300 and a trophy. Members of the team and their totals are Gerry Ewert, 542; Mona Voth, 493; Dot Ensz, 461; Louise Rahe, 477; and Virginia Martens, 556.
Allen L. Fisher, rural Delavan, has joined the Dean Schroeder Motor Co. As salesman.
