Dr. Robert C. Brown, 48-year-old native of Cheney, is expected to sign a three-year contract as superintendent of USD 410. Brown is currently completing his fifth term as superintendent at Circle High School. He is a graduate of Kingman High School, Friends University, and Wichita State University.
Larry Funk, Glen Diener, Terry Pankratz and Mike Rempel, Hillsboro High School students, placed fourth in the South Central District Dairy Contest in Newton. Funk also placed fifth high individual in the contest. Sixteen schools were involved in the contest.
Harvey Foyle, Hillsboro High School social studies instructor, was elected president of the Kansas Council for the Social Studies at a meeting in Wichita. Foyle has been at HHS for nine years teaching American history, sociology, world history and debate.
Terry D. Pankratz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Pankratz of Hillsboro, has been named a winner of a trip to Europe this summer. Pankratz, 14, was one of 29 Kansas members of Future Farmers of America who won top prizes in a subscription sales competition jointly sponsored by Kansas Farmer magazine and FFA chapters in Kansas. Pankratz won an eight-day, all-expenses-paid trip to Europe.

Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Jost of Hillsboro will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary April 2 at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church. Alfred Jost and Alma Suderman were married in the Ebenfeld Mennonite Brethren Church March 25, 1928. Hosting the celebration will be their children: Arlo and Ann Voth of Whitewater, Roy and Clara Heppner of Yankton, S.D. and Gerald and Joan Krehbiel Jost of Hillsboro.
Mr. and Mrs. Eldon Schmidt of Lehigh announce the engagement of their daughter Donna to David Terrell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Terrell of Edgerton. Donna is a graduate of Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo. He fiancé is employed as a mechanic at Underwood Equipment, Co., in Ottawa.
The tusk of a prehistoric elephant was found two miles south and 1 1/2 miles west of Hillsboro in sand pits belonging to Menno Jost of Hillsboro. A team from Kansas University moved the tusk to Tabor College where it will join a lower jaw and two tusks found in the same area several years ago.
Construction and relocation of U.S. 56 from K-15 intersection to K-150-US77 junction east of Marion is on the planned transportation schedule for 1980.
Author Esther Loewen Vogt has written her 10th book, Harvest Gold. It is a novel for children ages 8 through 12. The book continues the story of Martha and her family from Turkey Red.
Charlene Driggers hosted a come-and-go shower honoring Gala Liebelt and Andrew Mark Saturday. A Raggedy Ann and Raggedy Andy theme was used for the decor.
