Allen Funk took his oath of office Tuesday as the new city councilman from the West Ward. Funk, owner of Funk's Supply, replaces Wayne Schroeder.

Increased state aid in the amount of $39.7 million will assist Marion County school districts in meeting their school budgets. The bill was signed into law Thursday by Gov. Robert Bennett. USD 410 will get an additional $51, 790.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Jantz will celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary April 30 with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church.

Dr. and Mrs. Robert Arnold of McPherson announce the arrival of their second son, Kelly Brett, on April 12. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arnold are the paternal grandparents.

Kay Ediger, Kay Bartel, and Vivian Flaming, all juniors at Hillsboro High School, will attend Girls State at the University of Kansas in June.

Two major sales events are scheduled for Hillsboro area shoppers during the next three months. Spring Fling Crazy Daze is slated May 6 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the streets and sidewalks of downtown Hillsboro. The Bonus Bucks Promotion will offer shoppers one bonus buck for purchases from $5 to $50, two bonus bucks for purchases totaling $50 to $100. The Bonus Bucks event will run July 1.
