Mr. and Mrs. Art Suderman of Hillsboro announce the engagement of their daughter, Lori, to Lou Thurston, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Thurston of Hillsboro. Lori is a 1977 graduate of Hillsboro High School and is attending Tabor College. Lou is a 1976 graduate of HHS and is attending Emporia State University.
Harold and Susan Schultz announce the arrival of Scott Wayne, born on May 2 at Salem Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. T.A. Friesen are the maternal grandparents, and Mr. and Mrs. Orlando Schultz are the paternal grandparents.
Gary Slater won the bull-riding competition in the high school division at the Strong City Rodeo May 6. He received $210 and a belt. He is a sophomore at Hillsboro High School.
Julie Warkentin will present an organ recital at the Hillsboro Mennonite Brethren Church May 14. She has served as organist in the church for the past three years.
Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Jost were her sisters and their husbands, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Kliewer of Wichita and Mr. and Mrs. John Hiebert of Wichita and Ulysses.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Fisher announce the arrival of their twin daughter and son, Melissa Ann and Michael Arthur, born May 6 in Newton. Grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Addison of Ingalls and Collie Calhoun of Oak Park, Ill.
Winners in the junior league Hillsboro Recreation bowling are Greg Flechtner, David Penner, Myron Hamm, Tim Brennan, Terry Franz, Mark Rooker, and Jay Schroeder. Bantam league winners are Monte Brunner, Kendall Heide, Mark Dalke, Corey Brunner, and Arlin Funk.
