Seven Marion County farmers (Alvin Goerzen, Frank H. Kaiser, James Thiessen, Wesley Unruh, Howard Wedel, Dan Peterson, and Jim Peters) will be given awards for conservation work at the 34th annual meeting of the Marion County Conservation District Monday, Feb. 25, at St. Marks Activity Center in Marion.
Dennis and Jan Schmidt received the award for second runner-up for the central district in the Young Farmers Star Family program this past weekend in Hutchinson at the state Young Farmers convention.
Dennis Scharenberg, chiropractor, has been re-elected to fill a three year term as a member of the Sand Hills Associate Health Systems Council.
Greeley Gas Company increased its natural gas rates to its customers in its Central Kansas Division by 6.25 cents per CCF of gas used effective Feb. 1.
Mayor Harold Wiebe signed a proclamation Feb. 15 declaring the week of Feb. 24 through March 1 as National Letter Writing Week.
Band students who have won state honors are; Michelle Thiessen, I in state piano competition and Roseann Penner, I in state piano and selected for state honor band. Glenn Guhr, David Suderman and Wendell Funk were all selected for state honor chorus.
Denise and Ricky Medley, Durham, were invited to show their steers at the McDonald County's 4-State Livestock Show in Anderson, Mo., held Feb. 15 and 16. There were approximately 200 head of steers entered in the show. Denise came home with a 3rd place ribbon on her Limousin steer. Ricky showed a Polled Hereford and took Reserve Champion with him.
