Mrs. D.V. Wiebe was honored at a local cafe for Mother's Day. Family members attending were Ray Wiebe of Wichita, David Wiebe of Belleville, and John and Carol Wiebe, Colleen and John Clark of Marion. Later the family met in Mrs. Wiebe's home for dessert and visiting. Her daughter, the Don Isaac family, called from Fresno with Mother's Day greetings.

Dinner guests of the Allen Funks May 7 were Mrs. James Miller, Coleen and Brad Miller and Chuck Arnold all of Fort Collins, Colo.; Mrs. S.R. Funk of Parkside Homes; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Vogt of Hesston; Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Funk of Wichita; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Funk and girls, Lavern and David Funk, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Funk and family, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Ediger and family and Ron Funk, all of Hillsboro; Mr. and Mrs. Lester Funk and family of Moundridge; and Mr. and Mrs. Pawloski of Abilene.

Wayne Geis was named the 1978 Chapter Star Farmer at the Hillsboro FFA banquet May 15.

The 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Penner was celebrated May 12 with their children, grandchildren, brothers and sisters at the Colonial House in Hesston.

Mr. and Mrs. Abe Dahl returned May 9 from a two-week vacation which they spent in the Hawaiian Islands with their son, Calvin and family. They also visited with the Richard Falls, Neil Unruhs, Ted Brauns, and Dorothy Dahl in San Jose, Calif.

Parts of southern Marion County suffered extensive hail damage in the early morning hours of May 12. Both the Marion County ASCS office and the Marion County Extension office reported near 100 percent losses in crops in the heaviest struck areas.
