Three candidates, Dean Schroeder, M.P. Thompson Jr., and William Warneke, are competing for the position of East Ward Hillsboro City Councilman in Tuesday's primary election.

After an hour of waiting, with no public protest, county commissioners closed a road along the northeast Marion County line Monday at the commission meting.

June Jost filed this week for re-election as Marion County Sheriff. Jost will run on the Republican ticket.

A 1953 Chevy 2-ton truck belonging to Tabor College was stolen from a Tabor parking lot over the weekend. According to police chief Byron McCarty, the truck was driven to Hillsboro Cove and out onto Marion Lake where it broke through the ice. The investigation is continuing.

Nancy Schlehuber has been appointed full-time mental health worker in Marion County by Prairie View Mental Health Center. A graduate of Center High School, Schlehuber grew up on a farm near Pilsen. In December she completed her BS degree in psychology at Emporia State University; included in this program were 30 hours of social work at Tabor College.

Pinewood Derby winners at the competition after the Blue-Gold Cub Scout banquet Monday night were Ty Reusser, first place; Jason Plett, second place; and Chris Braun, third place. In the best-looking category of the competition, winners were Chris Dick, first place and Todd Vogt, second place.

Tabor College women's basketball coach Gary Myers has been named KCAC women's Coach of the Year in results released Tuesday, Feb. 26.

A PRIDE Did Something Award was presented to Dr. G. George Ens for his work on renovating 1887 Olde Towne as a cultural arts center for Hillsboro. The award was presented by Virginia Vanek, PRIDE chairman.
