Lehigh school facilities and real estate will be sold via private sale to Empire Lamp and Shade Manufacturing Company of Maize following action by the USD 410 board of education. The board decided to sell the property for 75 percent of its appraised value.
The semi-retirement of Kaethe Warkentin, longtime assistant professor of languages at Tabor college, was announced at the end of the school year by Dr. Larry Feil, academic dean. Mrs. Warkentin, 61, who has taught German, Russian and Low German at Tabor for 17 years will cut back her 1977-78 teaching load to an interterm course and independent studies
Cora Ratzlaff Friesen has been hired as secretary for the Hillsboro Chamber of commerce, according to Jim Baker, president. Friesen will man the office from 1 to 5 p.m. daily.
A new carpet and floor covering firm is open at 109 E. Grand in Hillsboro. Lee's Carpet and Supply will feature a full line of carpets, floor and wall covering as well as formicas for countertops and other installations.
Two Hillsboro High School coaches, Jerry Jones and Don Penner, are attending a week-long football workshop at the campus of Fort Hays State College June 27 through July 1.
A new pastor, the Rev. Robert Bayer, will be installed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Hillsboro and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marion on July 3.
Mr. and Mrs. Joel Franz returned Tuesday from a two-week vacation, which they spent visiting the southern states of Florida and Tennessee. While in Florida they visited with the Richard Franz family in Brentwood.
