The Hillsboro Business and Professional Women's Club distributed 15 welcome baskets for newcomers to Hillsboro during June. Those receiving baskets included Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Thiessen, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ashley, James B. Stuart, Sylvia Coleman, Vincent Ressel, Mr. and Mrs. Joel Klaassen, Kirby Armburst, Ronald Funk, Steve Sackrider, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Born, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Block, George Safarif, Louise Prystaloski, Mr. and Mrs. Carol Metzger, and Richard Kasper.
The valuation of property in Marion County showed a 6 percent increase. Hillsboro continued to be the top city in valuation with a 5 percent increase to $5,313,166.
Computer bookkeeping may be in the near future for the city of Hillsboro according to discussion held at a special meeting of the city council. Councilmen and Mayor Harold Wiebe concurred that the computer might be the answer because of the increasing number of entries required to keep the city's books up to date.
