Hillsboro voters turned out in strong numbers Tuesday to elect two councilmen and approve the water improvement project. Hillsboro voters turned back another special issue, the airport improvement bonds by a 2-1 margin, but followed a countywide trend in approving sale of Cedar Rest Home in Peabody.
Incumbent councilman Dean Schroeder out-polled challenger M. P. "Junior" Thompson, 309-192 in the East Ward council race.
Incumbent Allen Funk was defeated by challenger Allen Grunau in the West Ward council race. Grunau polled 284 votes to 226 for Funk.
Harold Dyck, assistant professor of Biblical Studies at Tabor College will conduct a Bible conference at the Western Plateau Community Church, Amarillo, Texas, April 4-6. Dyck's four lectures will be based on the suffering servant passages found in Isaiah.
Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church of Hillsboro claimed the championship of the first Mennonite Brethren Church Tournament this past weekend, beating Hesston-Koerner Heights, 67-44. The tournament involved 10 teams playing 15 games in three days.
Members of the championship Parkview Church team are Don Brubacher, Lynn Plett, Doug Weinbrenner, Lynn Kessler, Tom Frantz, Joe Kleinsasser, Barry Jackson, Dave Loewen, and Kent Jost.
Inclement weather during the past week forced cancellations of most of the scheduled events on the local high school and junior high sports calendars.
