Students across Marion County participated in the Soil Conservation District's annual poster contest. Winners were Lisa Braun, 1st place, and Carrie Dalke, 3rd place.
Mike Brennan and Robert Prieb joined other Tabor College students and students from Sterling College in an interterm course abroad. Students will tour cities such as London, Rome, Florence, Munich and Paris.
Building permits for construction projects totaling close to $600,000 were issued this past year by the city office.

For the second straight time this season, senior forward Jim Schroeder scored 37 points against Fairfield's Falcons. However, this time the team result was better as the Trojans controlled the tempo of the game and the outcome, 65-53.
A Hillsboro fire unit was called to the John Suderman farm home five miles south and 1/2 east of Hillsboro Friday. Suderman reported smoke in his home and called the fire department at 10:15 a.m. After the call he located the source of the smoke, a burning coat hanging on the inside of a basement door. Suderman had put out the fire with a bucket of water by the time the fire unit arrived. Damage to the house was estimated at $500.
Effective Jan. 15, Greeley Gas Company increased its natural gas rates to its customers in its Central Kansas Division by 6.58 cents per CCF. The average customer will see an 81 cent monthly increase on gas bills.
