Nearly everyone is angry with the preliminary census results which are currently being released in various cities. Hillsboro is supposed to have dropped to 2,600 residents, with Marion supposedly dropping to below 2,000 since 1970. Marion County is reported to have decreased by 3,000. Marion County is not the only one slighted. Hutchinson and Salina are both protesting figures indicating a loss of 2,000 each. If this is the best the census can do, the national count could be off by millions. Let's face it — either the census people have messed up, or people are falling into the cracks in the ground and never returning!
About 2,000 visitors and participants attended Threshing Days in Goessel Saturday. The weather cooperated by cooling down some Saturday morning for the parade. Some of the entertainment included steamed powered threshing machine, low German lunch, and a concert by the Blue Grass Jayhawkers.
The Ebenfeld Church is planning an installation service for pastor-elect Erwin Klaassen. Pastor Klaassen and his wife Joyce have a son, John, and daughter, Ruth, who will be joining the Hillsboro community from previous pastorates in Cimarron and Phoenix, Ariz.
