Mrs. Leo Regier was speechless one day last week when a four-foot snake decided to cross her path. When her words finally would come out, she called for her husband who killed it. That's one less snake we'll have to watch out for! When you think about it though, the snake was merely going on its way. They can be pretty, but ugh, they can be slithery and terrorizing!
"Fifty Years of Family Fun" is the theme of the 1980 Marion County Fair that begins next Monday. A new event of the fair this year will be the pork barbecue, sponsored by the Marion County Fair Association and the Marion County Pork Producers. Another of the special features at the 50th annual fair will be a display of memorabilia from the first fair in 1931.
Can Hillsboro residents be proud of their City Planning Commission? Nope. A meeting was scheduled for Monday night to discuss annexation and a zoning change request — not exactly earthshaking material, but important to individuals and to the future of the city. For the third straight month, the Planning Commission failed to come up with a quorum, disabling the board to make any official decisions. Even if the members of the commission aren't interested enough in the future of Hillsboro to discuss wide-ranging issues, they should be considerate enough to show and deal with issues that affect fellow city residents' lives. In fairness, the lax attitude is not typical of all members of the commission. Some of them patiently and dutifully show up for every meeting. But others are letting down some people in town who need their help. Three times in a row is simply inexcusable.
