A bruising battle was fought at the fairgrounds arena during the Demolition Derby Thursday night. Charles Loewen outlasted eight other drivers to win first place. Second place went to Eldon Hett of Peabody and third went to Carolyn Kleiber of Hillsboro, also the Powder Puff Derby winner.
The marriage of Sharon Ewert of Balko, Okla., and Clyde Jost of Hillsboro was solemnized at 3 p.m.. Aug. 4 in the Mennonite Brethren Church in Balko.
Lori Weinbrenner of rural Hillsboro and Dennis Funk of rural Hillsboro were married Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. in Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church.
Allen Funk, owner-operator of Funk's Supply, Inc. for 10 years, announces this week the sale of his share of the business to his sons and wife, Leona. Funk, who is disabled with back injuries, has turned the business over to other members of the family.

The Adobe Museum finance committee will conduct a special financial campaign Oct. 4 through 11 to liquidate indebtedness on the large machine shed addition recently constructed at the museum site.
The Grand Champion Market Steer was the champion crossbreed shown by Becky Suderman of rural Hillsboro. First National Bank purchased the Grand Champion from Becky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Suderman.
The Champion Holstein was shown by Sandy Funk in the dairy cattle division. Sheryl Funk won the traveling plaque as champion dairy showman in the competition.
Bently Richert won best of show in the rabbit competition. He also won top honors in the 4-H rabbit competition.
