Hillsboro Industries was purchased by Great Plains Industries of Wichita Sept. 18. The new owner is a manufacturer of evaporative coolers for tractors, combines, and recreational vehicles.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Patry, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Fiedler and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bowers were Tuesday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arnie Loewen to celebrate the birthday of Ed Patry and the Fiedler's wedding anniversay.

Mr. and Mrs. John B. Jost will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 1 at the Parkview Mennonite Brethren Church.

Homecoming queen candidates for Hillsboro High School are Bev Reimer, Elizabeth Upton, Debbie Ratzlaff, Colleen Dirks, and Danita Funk. Attendants are Denise Funk, junior; Marcia Reimer, sophomore; and Sheri Dirks, freshman.

Hillsboro High School football team pulled an upset victory over Herington Friday night, defeating the Railroaders 22-8. A 47-yard run by Rick Shriver highlighted the Trojan victory.

The sun beat down unmercifully on those attending Saturday's Arts and Crafts Fair. Umbrellas came in handy for shade most of the day until shortly after 4 p.m. when shelter from rain became their purpose. The accompanying rain caused damage to some of the booths. More than 1 1/2 inches of rain fell.

In the final dairy breed championship contests at the Kansas State Fair, brother beat out brother. At the Ayrshire show Thursday, Terry Pankratz of Marion County had the champion and his brother Kevin the reserve champion. Terry said showing Ayshires at the state fair is a family affair for his parents, Eldon and Ardith Pankratz, and their children.
