Oct. 1, 1953

Miss Malinda Suderman was a guest of Mrs. Frank Penner Saturday evening. Mrs. J.F. Penner was a Sunday luncheon guest.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter Kliewer and Miss Linda Friesen were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Penner and family.

Bertha, Bill and Isaac Harms moved last week to the house at 412 E. Second Street. The Harmses' property on Main Street will be the site for the new hospital.

Kiwanians Herold Regier, Albert Vogt, and Dr. P.E. Schellenberg were in Kansas City Monday and Tuesday attend the Kiwanis Convention at the Town House.

Jim Funk of Kessler Air Force Base in Mississippi arrived home Wednesday for a short leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Art Funk. Jim has been transferred to the air base at Salina.

Mr. Wm. Schaeffler and Bob Schaeffler were dinner guests last Tuesday evening of Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Ebel in honor of Mr. Schaeffler's 92nd birthday.

The new 1954 Hudson cars go on display at Herb's Auto Service in Hillsboro Oct. 2. Mr. Friesen invites the general public to visit his showroom and inspect the new models. This is the first showing of 1954 models by any local firm.

The fire department was called to the L.T. Buller home on S. Ash Tuesday. Fumes from natural gas were ignited from a broken gas line underneath the ground and sidewalk. Part of the home will have to be redecorated and the wall paneling renailed and repainted.

Beginning the first week in October, the Star-Journal will be under the management of Mr. Tal Hiebert.
