4 more athletes sign at Tabor
Four additional student-athletes have signed to various athletic programs at Tabor College for the 2004-05 year.
Jason Dechant of Kit Carson, Colo., has signed a letter of intent to participate in the men's basketball program.
"Jason is an excellent shooter who understands the game very well," said head coach Don Brubacher. "He also has a great work ethic and plays extremely hard. I am excited to have Jason with us and expect him to contribute a great deal to our team next year."
Dechant, a 6-3 guard and forward, is the son of Paul and Eleanor Dechant, Kit Carson.
Pat Miller, Rago, also has signed a letter of intent to participate in the men's basketball program.
Miller, a transfer from Neosho County Community College, is a 6-6 forward. He was a 4A all-state selection two years and all-CTL three years. While at NCCC, he was named an academic all-American.
"Pat will be an outstanding player in our program," Brubacher said. "He has the size to contribute a lot to our inside game and the skills and athleticism to be a great perimeter player. One of his greatest assets, though, is his intelligence on the court. He is an extremely bright player who understands the game very well. Pat is a great addition to the Tabor basketball program."
Miller was student-athlete of the year and member of Sigma Alpha and Phi Theta Kappa at NCCC. At Kingman High School, he was valedictorian and a member of National Honor Society. He is the son of Ed and Kathy Miller of Rago.
Kelly Pavlik, Phoenix, Ariz., has signed a letter of intent to participate in the Tabor College women's basketball program during the 2004-05 season, according to head coach Rusty Allen.
Pavlik, a transfer from Phoenix College, plays the shooting guard/small forward positions. The team captain and MVP earned first-team region one NJCAA, third-team ACCAC all-conference, and Phoenix College women's scholar athlete of the year honors. She also was ranked 24th in the nation for scoring in the NJCAA.
"Kelly will make a great addition to our squad," said Allen. "She shoots the three-point shot well. Combine this with her size and we have a player who is very versatile. She played two years at Phoenix for former Tabor student Liza Oakley."
Pavlik was named valedictorian of the 2004 Phoenix College graduating class and was awarded Who's Who Among American Junior Colleges honors. She was also an academic all-American. She is the daughter of Linda and Louis Pavlik of Phoenix.
Ashley Liston, Tishomingo, Okla., has signed a letter of intent to participate in the women's golf program.
Liston placed in the top 10 among the 2A state golfers in Oklahoma this year. She also was named MVP at the Kingston Classic, where she had the lowest average from 2000-2004.
Liston, Tishomingo's all around athlete for 2004-04, is the daughter of Barbara Richardson of Tishomingo.
