Fifty-one students were awarded diplomas by Dr. H.F. Janzen, school board member, Tuesday evening May 20, at the Hillsboro High School commencement exercises.

Saturday, May 17, marked the day the Santa Fe motor passenger train made its last run on the Florence to Ellinwood branch of the Santa Fe system. It is also an important day in the history of Hillsboro since the train has been in operation for around 74 years, and this is the first time that the line has been without the services of a regular passenger train. The motor passenger replaced the former steam train and now the motor train is replaced by a car on the regular freight train which makes a daily round trip from Florence to Ellinwood. The motor car train was commonly called the Doodlebug.

Twenty-seven Tabor students who will graduate this spring will be given recognition during the graduation exercises beginning May 25. The annual Baccalaureate services will be held in the Mennonite Brethren Church Sunday evening. Dr. P.R. Lange, dean of the college of theology, will give the baccalaureate address.
