The Hillsboro Study Club met at the home of Mrs. N.E. Abrahams Monday evening with Mrs. Harold Funk assisting.
The Hillsboro Fire Department answered a call shortly before midnight Tuesday at the home of Leonard Friesen at 317 N. Ash where a brooder house was burning. The fire was quickly extinguished, but most of the chickens were lost.
Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Loewen and Mrs. J.V. Friesen were on a business trip to Chicago last week. They returned to Hillsboro Thursday night. Ronnie Loewen visited his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Loewen, while his parents were gone.
On Jan. 16 Miss Elizabeth Harms served a dinner in honor of the birthday of her niece, Miss Rachel Kornelsen. After dinner the evening was spent playing games. Those present were Orrin Berg, Rodney Kornelsen, Verden and Phebe Harms, Betty May Kornelsen, Raymond Wiebe and the hostess.
Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Friesen and family were hosts for a family gathering Sunday in the Evangelical U.B. Church honoring Sgt. Ernest Friesen and Cpl. Franklin Friesen, who were home on furloughs.
The members of the Mom's Unit met at the home of Mrs. Lex Moore Jan. 8 for the installation of officers. Officers are Mrs. Lex D. Moore, president; Mrs. Orlando Penner, vice president; Mrs. Ervin Plenert, sec.-treas.; Mrs. H.R. Nickel, reporter; Mrs. Arnold Funk, song leader; and Mrs. John R. Nickel, recreation leader.
