Because of the tremendous interest and agitation on the part of local civic organizations as well as individuals for the construction of a swimming pool in Hillsboro, the city council, headed by Mayor Charles Thresher, has issued an ordinance calling for a special bond election Sept. 7. The purpose of the election is to determine if the residents of Hillsboro are agreed to spending not more than $60,000 for the construction of a pool.

The Hillsboro City Council discussed at its regular meeting the progress of the community hospital, the proposed swimming pool, and the county fair booster trip.

An announcement by Herold Regier, superintendent of the Hillsboro schools, asks that all Hillsboro High School band members be on hand Tuesday morning, Aug. 17, at 7:45 a.m. to accompany the booster caravan on its tour of towns advertising and publicizing the Marion County Fair.

Miss Myrtle Duerksen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Duerksen, left Aug. 7 by train from Newton for Tokyo, Japan, to teach the children of American servicemen.

Mr. and Mrs. Francis Groening, Connie, and Sheryl spent one week in Colorado.

Mr. and Mrs. N.H. Suderman moved to town last Friday and are living at 112 N. Jefferson.

Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hodel and Dick spent their vacation in Oklahoma and Western Kansas.
