The first major accident to occur at the construction site of the new Salem Hospital resulted in the death of Mr. Frank Goertz, volunteer laborer at the hospital. Mr. Goertz succumbed to complications which followed an operation performed on his hip broken as a result of a fall from a truck transporting bricks to the hospital.

A not-so-dainty caller made its appearance in the front yard of the Levi Buller home Tuesday night. The Bullers, who live at 305 S. Ash, were watching Bob Hope on television when a gentle thud outdoors brought the incident to their attention. Upon investigation, they found Mr. Vernon Pauls clambering through the top door of his wandering automobile. The auto had been stopped by the front porch and turned over on its side. Mr. Pauls must have blacked out; he was not seriously injured.

Mr. Harold Jost, city clerk, is attending the statewide city clerk's training school at the University of Kansas on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry Funk and daughters and Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Peters and children had Sunday dinner with Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Peters at North Newton.

The Tabor College faculty wives met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Wiebe last Tuesday evening. Mrs. Wiebe and Mrs. Roy Just were the hostesses.

Recent galloping tea hostesses were Mrs. Alvin R. Funk, Mrs. Karl Suderman, Mrs. Herbert Funk and Mrs. Frank Balzer.

Miss Joyce Thiessen was crowned homecoming queen by Mr. Jerry Plett, A-squad captain, Friday between games against Lincolnville. Lehigh won 68-49. The B-team is undefeated for the season and won 46-22.
