Wharton Hoch, publisher of the Marion Record-Review, was the principal speaker at the Hillsboro Kiwanis Club on Monday evening. Hoch, president of the Kansas Press Association, directed his remarks toward the freedom of the press and the people's right to know.

Mr. Jake Klassen, Miss Malinda Penner, and Mr. Orville Kliewer were in Wichita as local representatives for the Zone school being held there on Monday and Tuesday for teachers of this area. Mr. Klassen is president of the Hillsboro Teachers Association.

Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Hefley and children were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Hefley and family in Wichita.

Gene Rice, who has just finished his basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas, arrived home Sunday afternoon on furlough and is visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.C. Rice.

Pvt. Keith Ashcraft, who has finished his basic training at Ft. Bliss, Texas, flew from ElPaso to Wichita Saturday afternoon and is spending a 14-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.P. Ashcroft. After his furlough, he will return to Ft. Bliss and will be assigned to a guided missile school.
