Mr. J.W. Warkentin, chairman of the general hospital committee, announced at the chamber of commerce meeting Tuesday evening that the ground-breaking for the new Salem Hospital will be held on the new hospital site at the south end of Main Street at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Miss Janet Regier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman J. Regier and a student at Wichita University, has been chosen as a member of the 100-piece Shocker marching band. She plays the saxophone.
Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Dyck left Wednesday for California to spend several weeks visiting relatives. They will return by the southern route and will tour some of the southern states. They expect to return around Thanksgiving.
A picnic was held Tuesday evening at Memorial Park in honor of Lt. and Mrs. Arthur Schmidt who left Wednesday for Colorado. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Ben B. Schmidt, Mr. and Mrs. Eddison Schmidt and boys, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Hiebert and girls.
Rev. and Mrs. Joe Walter, Yale, S.D., missionary candidates to Peru, spoke in chapel at Tabor College. They will sail in December for their field of service among the Champa Indians.
Hillsboro High School's Trojans celebrated reaching the halfway mark of their 1953 football season with a convincing 19-6 victory over the Hope Lions at Hope.
