The Kansas Egg and Poultry Co. is one of the oldest businesses, if not the oldest business, in Hillsboro, having been established in 1884. The original owner was John Jaenicke, who sold the business to A.L. Jaenicke two years later. The present stone building was built in 1884, but the cornice on top of the building was not put on the building until 1897.
Mrs. Ralph Herdt and Mrs. Harry Helmer were hostesses to a stork shower on Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. Helmer for Mrs. Lee Unruh.
Mrs. Wesley Loewen was the honored guest at a baby shower Thursday evening at the home of Mrs. J.V. Friesen, with Mrs. G.L. Ballard as hostess.
Mrs. C.C. Razor left Thursday for Manhattan where she joined Mr. Razor, and they will make their home there. Mrs. Wayne Hornbaker will make her home with them while Mr. Hornbaker is stationed at Ft. Riley.
Celebrating the birthday of Mr. Clifford Beltz at Sunday dinner were Mrs. Anna Beltz and Dorothy, and Mrs. Fred Caywood of Hutchinson; Mr. and Mrs. Solomon Geis; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Borton, the honored guest; and the hostess Mrs. Clifford Beltz, Rita and Gordon.
Mr. and Mrs. John F. Jost and Jerry, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Heidel and Sydney, Mrs. Mary Neiderhouse and Jimmy were Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Remier. The birthdays of Mr. Reimer and Mrs. Jost were observed. Mrs. Melvin Bliss and son were afternoon guests.
Open House will be observed in the grade school and the high school from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening as an activity of American Education Week. A program is planned for 8 p.m.
