The first real snow of the season started falling in Hillsboro Monday, and by Tuesday night had left a deposit of about 4 inches on the level in this area. Everything looked good with a white covering. Farmers thought it was especially effective on their wheat fields.
Family and friends of Mrs. F. D. Vogt, 77, were shocked to hear of her death Wednesday morning. Mrs. Vogt, a veteran Hillsboro business woman, was known to have a heart condition, but her death came quite unexpectedly.
The Hillsboro freshman basketball squad downed the Peabody freshmen, 28-24, on the home court last Friday afternoon.
The Lehigh Eagles remain undefeated in the North Marion County League with six straight victories.
Members of the American Legion Auxiliary, in their meeting Tuesday, January 18, voted funds to be sent to Wadsworth Veterans Hospital for the purchase of power tools to aid in rehabilitation of the handicapped.
A road block set up on the east edge of Hillsboro Tuesday night netted a stolen car and its two youthful occupants. The car was a 1950 Buick stolen from Emporia, and in it were Dennis Lee Fenton 16, and Richard Harold McFarland 18, both of Des Moines, Iowa.
Important matters will be up for discussion and decision at the 5th annual meeting of Salem Hospital, Inc., Thursday, January 27. All delegates and the pastors of the respective churches which they represent are urged to attend. Due to come before the group is a discussion of finances and progress of the new hospital building.
Betty Sellers of Florence was named first place winner among five contestants in the Marion County 4-H Cherry Pie contest. The contest was held Saturday in the Marion High school Home Economics room.
