Starting with a few halfhearted sprinkles Saturday afternoon, real honest-to-goodness rain moved in Saturday evening and left a total of .52 of an inch. The rain came down gently, just the way farmers like it. The past month was the driest November recorded in the 68-year weather history of Kansas.

Hillsboro's new municipal swimming pool became a reality this week as actual excavation got underway. John Vanderslice, construction foreman, arrived in Hillsboro Saturday, and by Tuesday morning local men had been hired and were hard at work on the excavation of the $60,000 pool.

Outstanding as a good will project for Cub Scout Pack 129 of Hillsboro will be their visit to Cedar Rest Home Dec. 14. They'll bring many a smile to residents as they sing Christmas Carols, decorate their tree, and serve treats of home-made candies and cookies. Pack 129 is made up of assorted sizes and kinds of boys who have a great many things in common: they're all ages 7 to 11, and they usually have enough pep among them to furnish electric power for Hillsboro.

Tabor College will play Bethel College here next Monday evening at the high school auditorium to round out their pre-Christmas basketball schedule. They defeated the alumni last Thursday night and dropped a game to C. Of E. at Emporia on Monday evening. They are playing Bethel in the first round of the Central Kansas Collegiate Tournament at Moundridge this Wed. Evening.
