Four hundred grade school pupils, parents, and teachers of the Hillsboro community went on the special Santa Fe excursion to Kansas City early Tuesday morning returning about 9 p.m. Around 60 students, parents and teachers of the Lehigh community were the first to board the train. Most of the Durham people boarded the special at Hillsboro.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Arnold and boys were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Klassen.
Miss Louis Grauman spent the weekend in Buhler visiting with friends.
A four-fold birthday party was enjoyed Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Penner. Birthdays celebrated were Bryan Unruh, Mrs. E.J. Penner, Mrs. Wm. Penner and Russell Unruh. Those present were Dr. and Mrs. H.A. Penner, Dr. and Mrs. Walter A. Penner of Newton, Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Unruh and family, Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Penner and the hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Penner and Martha.
Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Burgat have bought the house at 108 E. C now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Wm. D. Smith and will move into it as soon as the Smiths can find a suitable residence. They bought the house from Arthur Classen.
Miss Jean Balzer left last Wednesday for McPherson where she is working for the Farmers Alliance Insurance Co.
Mrs. Lee Unruh who has been office assistant for Dr. M.B. Willems has resigned her position and has taken an office job at the Central Kansas Co-op Creamery. Mrs. Frank J. Ediger Jr. is temporarily employed by Dr. Willems.
Robert Herbel of Lawrence is spending this week with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G..F. Herbel.

John Unruh of Hillsboro is one of 151 Kansas State College students who will compete in the Little American Royal livestock show in the giant Field House at K-State March 28. He is a sophomore in animal husbandry and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Unruh of Hillsboro.
Mr. and Mrs. Jac. Bartel went to Newton Sunday evening to hear Dr. Hartzler who is giving a series of lectures this week at Bethel College.
The Evangelical United Brethren Church has purchased the lot directly south of the church building. It is the beginning of a program of expansion. The lot had been owned by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schultz, whose home is in the process of being moved onto the south lot of their property.
Mr. Levi Buller left Saturday for Springfield, Mo., to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Noel Strickbine and family and to get Mrs. Buller who has spent the past two weeks at the Strickbine home helping out while Mrs. Strickbine was ill.
Mrs. P.A. Koslowsky fell in the yard of their home Thursday evening and broke her left arm in two places. She was taken to the Osteopathic Hospital in Wichita for care. Mr. Koslowsky, who has been very ill but is better at this time, was taken to Salem Hospital for care.
Mr. Pete Goentzel fell Sunday evening and broke his left leg just below the hip. Mr. Goentzel was visiting in the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Galleart and family of Marion, and was going up the step to their house when he missed the step and fell. He was brought to Salem Hospital where he is being cared for.
