The Hillsboro Public School Board of Education has hired three high school instructors. Teachers recently employed include Mr. John W. Lacey, vocational agriculture; Clarence F. Shafer, coach and physical education; and Malinda Penner, English, speech, and journalism.

Mr. and Mrs. G.L. Ballard and family spent Sunday with Mrs. W.L. Ballard in Wichita.

Mr. Walter Ebel of Wichita spent the weekend in Hillsboro with relatives.

The men of the Evangelical United Brethren Church had the honor of cooking and serving a Mother/Daughter banquet in the church dining hall last Wednesday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Seibel have purchased the former Ray Cornelsen home at 213 S. Jefferson and will move into it by the first of June. Mr. and Mrs. Stokes and family, who have been living there, will move to Marion.

Arthur Penner, local assessor, has finished his work of listing the property of residents and the enumeration of citizens in Hillsboro for 1953. His figures show a population of 2,147 compared to 2,218 for 1952. The youngest person on the list is Janette Loewen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Loewen. The oldest person on the list is Mrs. Jacob Goertz, 92.

In addition to the human population, the assessor is required to take the dog population. There are 89 dogs in the city.s
