"The Positive Approach" will be the subject of the commencement address delivered by Dr. Paul Renich, dean of Kansas Wesleyan University, May 17 at the class of 1953 commencement exercises. Fifty-three students will graduate.
Harbor Lights was the theme emphasized at the Junior-Senior Banquet held May 9. Speakers for the evening were Mr. Dean Stucky and Mr. John Gaedert. Wayne Wiens was toastmaster. Toasts were given by Carrol Franz, Don Herbel, Glenn Boelke and Gwenne Hiebert.
Marga Ebel of Wichita spent the weekend with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Otto Ebel.
Mr. P.H. Schroeder had the misfortune of falling off a ladder Monday while trimming a tree. He injured both of his feet.
Thirty-one Kansas high schools were recognized by the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas for journalistic work of merit during the school year. James Banman of Lehigh placed first for editorial.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Toews and family spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Pete B. Koehn of Menno, Okla.
Willis Dean Penner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Penner, who is leaving for France, was guest of honor at a dinner Sunday at the home of his parents. Those present were Willis Penner, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ewert and family, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Rempel and girls, Mr. and Mrs. Ben Ewert and boys of Marion, and Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Penner and family.
Little Miss Nan Etta Abrahams was honored on her third birthday with a party in the Memorial Air Park. Twenty-two guests were invited.
