Hillsboro and five other towns of Marion County are getting themselves ready for the setting up of polio vaccine centers which will go into operation as soon as possible after the national Foundation's announcement on April 12 of the results of last year's tests with the new Saulk vaccine. Only first and second grade children will be given the vaccine.
Running two tickets in their city election, held Monday, April 4, Durham came out with a close race for mayor. Alex Becker, on the Citizens ticket beat his opponent, George Klein, a Progressive, by the slim margin of three votes.
The Lehigh Community Choir will present "The Seven Last Words of Christ" on Good Friday morning at 10 o'clock. The choir is directed by Robert C. Unruh with Mrs. Unruh as accompanist.
Wing Drug Store, owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wing for the past nine and a half years, was sold this week to Roland "Doc" Reiswig also of Hillsboro.
At a drawing held March 15 in Council Grove by the Flint Hills R. E. A. office, a Hillsboro farm family, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Funk of Route 2, were the lucky winners of a new Frigidaire electric stove.
Mrs. Irma Haefke entertained guests at dinner Sunday in honor of her son, Roger, who was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Haefke and Lois of Alma and Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Lawrenz of Wichita.
The Cresswell school teacher and pupils went on a tour on Friday to visit the various places in Hillsboro such as the Cooperative Creamery, Light Plant, Star-Journal Office, Post Office, Buller Manufacturing, and the Hatchery.
