Members of the Hillsboro high school orchestra and their conductor, Leslie Sperling, were busy Wednesday as they presented three concerts in one day. The tour took them to Goessel high school, Lehigh high school and Bethel College in Newton.
Two Hillsboro High School students received highly superior ratings at the Bethany College Mid-west Music Audition held during Easter week in Lindsborg. Bonnie Harder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Menno Harder, won her high rating in voice. Arline Schmidt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Schmidt won hers in brass, playing tenor saxophone.
Miss Norma Bartel, secretary for the past four years at Hillsboro High school, has resigned that position, effective at the close of the current school year. Plans to return to Tabor College as a student were responsible for her decision, Miss Bartel said. She had previously attended Tabor one year.
Hi-Y, boys' organization in Hillsboro High School held their annual Father-Son banquet in the high school gymnasium Tuesday, April 12. Approximately 125 were present for the dinner and program. Featured speaker of the evening was Dr. Frank G. Richards, who for the past fifteen years has served the Kansas State Industrial Reformatory in Hutchinson as chaplain. His topic was "The Guardian of Our Birthright."
Chester Goertz of Goertz Motor & Oil Co., was named secretary of the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce by the board of directors. The vacancy occurred when Arnold Vogt, secretary, resigned after he was elected mayor in last week's election.
Sponsored by the local Kiwanis Club, Lawrence Foth and Karen Suderman, high school juniors, will represent Hillsboro at Boys' State and Girls' State, respectively.
