The old adage, "Lightening never strikes twice in the same place" is not necessarily true. If in doubt, ask the William Christensens who live west of Canada. On January 5 this year, the Christensen farm home was stuck by lightening causing a fire which, fortunately, was quickly extinguished, however, not before causing quite a bit of damage. On June 28, lightening again struck the Christensen home, this time causing damage to the kitchen range.

Victor Hiebert and Leon Suderman of the Ebenfeld community came very close to serious injury in a farm accident last week while doing repair work on a combine. In removing a plate, a larger portion unexpectedly fell, pinning both men underneath. With Mrs. Hiebert's help, Suderman was freed, and he, in turn, freed Hiebert by jacking up the combine. Hiebert was hospitalized two days, but he along with Suderman are reported to be recovered from their narrow escape.

For many years the post office pens have been reason enough for a good snide laugh. They always scratched or smudged anything patrons tried to write with them. But now — in Hillsboro at least — post office pens are different. Streamlined and ball pointed, they're a credit to their department. And — they're cemented and chained to the desk!

Mrs. Abe Frick would appreciate having her rocks back. It seems someone went into her yard and took the pretty flat rocks she had around her flower beds. One certainly is hard up when they steal stones as many as there are lying around unclaimed.

Three representatives of Beech Aircraft landed on Hillsboro's municipal airfield last Thursday afternoon following some minor engine trouble with their private plane. The men were flying a four-seat Beechcraft Bananza which had about 27 flying hours from Hutchinson to Topeka. When the engine trouble developed, they landed here and stayed about 45 minutes correcting it. Police officer Don Reimer talked to the men and stated they had very complimentary remarks to make concerning Memorial Air Park and its facilities and the attractiveness of the town.
