Pete Fleming, proprietor of the Farmers Equipment company, was quite severely injured last Thursday afternoon when he ran into a Missouri Pacific train at the crossing on K-15 at the north edge of Newton.
John Unruh, 20-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Unruh of Hillsboro, was seriously injured in a car accident three miles from Adrian, Michigan, last Saturday. He received a fractured leg, skull fracture and possible internal injuries.
Mr. H.J. Regier of Hillsboro, chairman of the Marion County Board of Soil Conservation Supervisors, has received a special invitation to attend the premier showing of the "Tuttle Creek Story" at Randolph Sept. 18.
Mr. Steve N. Lawrence of Hillsboro has received letters from the white house president's secretary and from the department of justice that his name has been mentioned along with others for a federal position as U.S. Marshall for the state of Kansas.
Miss Darlene Klaassen, bride-elect of Malvin Schmidt, was honored with a miscellaneous shower Monday evening at the home of Elizabeth Penner. Hostesses were Mary Bartel, Frances Siebert and Elizabeth Penner. Refreshments were served to Mrs. Herman Klaassen, Mrs. Andrew Schmidt, Alma Schmidt, Jean Balzer, Harriet Klaassen, Lorene Winter, Rosella Siemens and the hostess.
Kenny Ollek left Monday for Winfield where he has enrolled at St. John's College.
Miss Neda Hass, who has been ill the past week, returned to her work at Hugo's Store Tuesday morning.
Delton Wiens of Lowry A.F.B. in Denver spent the weekend with his parents Mr. and Mrs. George Wiens.
