Round the Town: Klaassens surprised on 20th wedding anniversary years ago

Mike and Angie Klaassen hosted a surprise 20th wedding anniversary June 25 for their parents, Milford and Janell Klaassen. The family celebrated with a Hawaiian luau barbecue on the family farm.
Guests included Louise Schmidt, Joel, Tyler, and Trey Schmidt of Goessel, Rod, Marsha, and Kiley Schmidt of Newton, Elgin and Rubena Bartel of Hillsboro, Ron and Loretta Paxton, Tyler, Diana, and Andrea Ewert, and Deidra Cramer of Wichita.
Debbie Goossen of Beatrice, Neb., came Thursday to spend a few days with Willis and Ruth Ann Penner. She helped with the rehearsal dinner for Sheldon Leppke and Amanda Duran. Sheldon is the Penners' grandson. They all attended the wedding Saturday which took place at the Elyria Christian School near McPherson.
Joyce Hanneman of Hillsboro, Glen and Connie Fredrick of Tucson, Ariz., and LaVern Hein of Newton were Tuesday visitors of Pearl Koch.
Herb, Trudy, and Andrew Pankratz of Abilene visited Wednesday afternoon at the Paul Pankratz home.
Hillsboro women who attend Durham Baptist Church celebrated the May and June birthdays of Lois Nuss, Mary Lancaster, Arlene Pankratz, and Doris David by taking them out for lunch Friday at the Pizza Hut. Others attending were Carol Ollenburger, Edie Ollenburger, Geraldine Frick, Francis Unruh, Mary Helen Becker, Pearl Koch, Betty Meier, Valerie Hampton, Donna Diener, and Jane Miller, all of Hillsboro, and Marilyn Geis of Marion.
Wilbur and Florence Hett spent the weekend with Rick and Kim Riffel at Phillipsburg. Robin Webb and Kaden visited Monday at the Hett home.
Alma and Clara Toews spent the weekend at Heron, S.D., where they attended the wedding of Sue Penner and Les Reimer.
Galen and Rachel Fast of Arvada, Colo., were weekend guests of Bonnie Fast.
Mary Seibel and Eleanor Jost had lunch Monday with Wes and Shirley Penner in Wichita. They also visited Jake Koslowsky and Elmer and Dorothy Seibel in Newton in the afternoon.
Mr. and Mrs. Duwane Miller are the great-grandparents of Gabriel Benjamin Wathan, born to Cameron and Heather Wathan at Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The baby has a two-year-old brother to welcome him home.
