As the weather reaches unseasonably warm temperatures and grass begins to green, it's little wonder that flowers are beginning to pop up.
And for Jan Frantz, both her business and flowers will be popping up in early November.
Frantz is hoping her new floral shop, Forget-Me-Not Flower Shop, will give Hillsboro customers a reason to stay in town for their floral needs.
"So many people are going out of town for their flowers," Frantz said. "I have so many people encouraging me to do this. I'm hoping (our store) gives people another chance to spend dollars in Hillsboro."
After a little nudge from her family and friends, Frantz decided to give the floral field a shot. With experience in the floral business before as a floral designer, Frantz said the timing is just right.
"I woke up one night, and I said, 'I could retire soon' why would I want to start a business," Frantz said. "I really want to be in Hillsboro, and this kind of work is really relaxing. I love to do this. It's a fulfilling job. You get to make people happy, and you might as well get paid for something you love to do."
With free delivery for Hillsboro citizens, a shop full of candles, balloons, gifts, and of course, flowers, both fresh and silk, the new Grand Street flower lady said she hopes for longevity in her new business.
"We want to offer another option for people seeking floral needs," Frantz said. "We'll be providing flowers for (individuals), weddings and funerals. Availability (of flowers) will also be big for us. I have an opportunity not to carry a lot of stuff, and still offer good floral services to Hillsboro.
"I really see our business as a community service and a long-term thing."
Forget-Me-Not Flower Shop will open its doors Nov. 1.
