Kathryn Heinrichs, Fern Unruh, Darlene Unruh, Ruth Penner, Katherine Penner, Malinda Suderman, Harriet Suderman, Judy Schroeder, Marlene Schwind, and Larry Jost celebrated their September birthdays at the senior center on Monday. After the meal, the group traveled by video up the western coast of the United States and parts of Hawaii.
Wednesday was Hat Day at the senior center. Everyone was encouraged to wear a hat — the crazier, the better.
Today, the video, "But Names Can Hurt Forever," addressed the problem of name-calling and bullying which can have repercussions throughout adulthood. It is scheduled after lunch at the center.
The van outing to the Flint Hills has been canceled and will be rescheduled in the spring.
Mary McFadden will be available for foot care and blood pressures on Oct. 6. Call ahead for foot care appointments.
On Oct. 7 from 2 to 8 p.m., high-speed Internet demonstrations are scheduled at the center. Come in and take a look at what's available.
On Oct. 30 and 31, AARP will offer a safe-driving class for all 55 and older. Please register in advance. Completing this course should be favorable to lower premiums for vehicle insurance. There is a fee for this class; you must attend four hours each day. The class will be held at the senior center.
Those who volunteered at the senior center last week were: Kitchen — Gladys Jantz, Ann Fast, Irma Groening, Irma Koop, Jean Herbel, Edna Spinks, Kim Friesen, Lydia Pankratz, Nellie Jost, and Mildred Jantz; Meal delivery — Jim Brennan and Wilbur Hanneman; FISH transportation — Albert Fadenrecht, Malinda Suderman, Elvina Ediger, and Hilda Vogt.
