Accidents

The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:

Terry L. Hiebert, 38, 141 E. 290th, Canton, was northbound on 290th just south of Goldenrod at 8:15 p.m. Oct. 21 when a deer came from the west ditch and was hit. Hiebert was driving a 1993 Buick LaSabre with passenger Charles Hiebert, 13, of the home. No one was injured, reports Deputy Larry Starkey.

James L. Novak, 38, 409 N. Main, Tampa, was southbound on Kanza just south of 240th at 7:15 a.m. Oct. 21 when a deer came from the east ditch and was hit. Novak was driving a 1991 Jeep Cherokee, and was not injured, reports Deputy Starkey.

Julianne R. Chisholm, 15, 2868 Kanza, Durham, slowed down turning south from westbound U.S.-56 at Adams in Hillsboro at 7:28 a.m. Oct. 20. Paul L. Cross Jr., 55, Manhattan, was westbound on U.S.-56 and was unable to avoid hitting the 1994 Ford Crown Victoria Chisholm was driving. Cross was driving a 1997 Freightliner belonging to KSS Truck Lines, Manhattan. Chisholm's vehicle is owned by USD #410, Hillsboro. Passengers were Kory Unruh, 26, 212 S. Elm, Hillsboro; Lottie A. Alonzo, 18, 1806 Goldenrod, Hillsboro; and Alysha R. Classen, 14, 1806 Goldenrod, Hillsboro. No one was injured, reports Deputy Aaron Waddell.

Anita S. Hancock, 58, 2301 170th, Marion, was eastbound on U.S.-56 just west of Sunrise at 8 p.m. Oct. 22 when two deer came from the south ditch. Hancock, driving a 1990 Buick Park Avenue, slowed down but was unable to avoid hitting one deer. Hancock was not injured, reports Deputy Starkey.

Garry Dean Potter, 57, Emporia, was traveling east on U.S.-56 just east of Goldenrod at 3:15 a.m. Oct. 26. Potter, driving a 2002 Freightliner, was unable to see two Black Angus cows belonging to Ron Bartel, 949 U.S.-56, Hillsboro, standing in the eastbound lane. Potter was unable to avoid hitting the cattle, reports Sergeant Jeff Soyez. Everett Wayne Rickabaugh, 50, Emporia, was a passenger in the vehicle which belongs to Interstate Brands Corp., Peoria, Ill. No injuries were reported.
