Accidents
The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:
John C. Padgett, 64, 2313 140th, Florence was parked southbound at railroad tracks at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 7 to open a gate. A BNSF train was eastbound on the tracks. A farm implement on Padgett's 1983 John Deer tractor was too close to the tracks causing the train to hit the implement. No one was injured, reports Deputy Rollin Schmidt.
Vance E. Donahue, 23, 410 S. Broadway, Herington, was northbound on Kanza just north of 260th at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 when a deer came from the east ditch and was hit. Donahue, driving a 1989 Chevrolet celebrity, and passenger Holly Donahue, 22, of the home, were not injured, reports Deputy Larry Starkey.
Dorothy F. Conyers, 70, 910 Sherman, Marion, was eastbound on U.S.-50 just east of Old Mill at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 15. Conyers, driving a 1998 Buick Regal, ran over debris in the road. Conyers stopped to check for damage when another unknown vehicle also ran over the debris. Debris was thrown, hitting the trunk and rear window of Conyers Buick, reports Deputy Starkey.
Eric D. Cress, 17, 1244 K-15, Newton was southbound in the Goessel High School parking lot at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 18. Shane M. Campbell, 17, 2839 Commanche Road, Canton, was westbound. Cress, driving a 1997 Ford Taurus turned east and struck the 1990 Jeep Cherokee Campbell was driving. Alexander Goosen, 18, 1463 N. Eagle, Hillsboro, was a passenger in the Cress vehicle. No one was injured, reports Deputy Starkey.
Anthony Polacca, 62, 2034 E. 26th Territory, Lawrence, was eastbound on U.S.-50 just west of U.S.-77 at 9:55 p.m. Nov. 15. A deer was standing in the roadway and was struck by the 2000 Dodge van Polacca was driving. The vehicle is owned by Haskell Indian Nation University, Lawrence. The following were passengers in the vehicle: Topah Spoonhunter, 20, Big Pine, Calif.; Ericka Joseph, 25, Lawrence; Dave Gourmean, 25, Antonio Lopel, 19, and Burhan Young, 21, all of Oklahoma Hall, Lawrence; Jazz Parker, 24, and Cory Ladson, 24, both of Roe Cloud Hall, Lawrence. No one was injured, reports Undersheriff Randal Brazil.
