Accidents
The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:
Lola E. Magathan, 67, of 406 S. Thorp, Marion, was southbound on Sunflower just south of 120th at 3:30 a.m. July 2, when a deer came from the east ditch and was hit and killed, reports Officer Michael Fisher. Magathan was driving a 1997 Buick, with passenger Monte N. Magathan, 46, of Mineral, Va. No one was hurt.
Gregory A. Lippincott, 50, of Milan, was southbound on U.S.-77 about a half mile north of 150th at 6:20 p.m. May 28, when he fell asleep at the wheel of a 2001 Ford pickup, reports Undersheriff Randal Brazil. Lippincott woke up and overcorrected, entering the east ditch and overturning. He was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital. Betty Crumrine of 20 Lakeshore, Marion, and Jessica Whiteman of Augusta witnessed the accident.
Gerardo Valenciana-Chavez, 26, of Wichita, was westbound on U.S.-56 just east of Quail Creek at 4:45 p.m. July 2, when he slowed down for traffic in front of him, reports Officer Lonnie Hiebert. Darryl Albertson Jr., 37, of 317 S. Ash, Hillsboro, hit Valenciana — Chavez from behind. Albertson was driving a 1995 Ford and Valenciana-Chavez was driving a 1991 Oldsmobile. Albertson was not hurt, but Valenciana-Chavez was injured and was taken by Marion ambulance to St. Luke Hospital.
Florence Ehrlich, 74, of 2193 Pawnee, Marion, was turning west on U.S.-56 from Old Mill at 2:49 p.m. June 22 as Andrew J. Maki, 55, of Hillsboro, was westbound on U.S.-56, reports Officer Aaron Waddell. Ehrlich was driving a 1992 GMC pickup which struck Maki, driving a 1992 Ford. No one was injured.
