Accidents and drug arrests keep sheriff's office busy
Sometime between 10 p.m. Nov. 6 and 9 a.m. Nov. 7, unknown persons kicked in a door and entered property at 502 West 6th, Lincolnville. Taken was a small amount of change. The property belongs to Agri Producers Inc. Damage to the door and money taken is valued at $203, reports Deputy Aaron Waddell.
A vehicle was found stopped in the roadway on Old Mill Road, Peabody at 8:55 p.m. Nov. 10. The vehicle did not have lights. The driver was passed out in the driver's seat and an odor of alcohol was present. The driver failed field sobriety tests and was arrested for driving under the influence. The driver was under age 21, and was charged with consumption of alcohol by a minor, states Deputy Mike Vineski.
At 5:25 a.m. Nov. 14, a driver was traveling 74 mph on U.S.-56 at milepost 293. Sergeant Jeff Soyez stopped the vehicle for speeding and after a brief search, the driver was arrested for minor in consumption, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Value of drug and drug paraphernalia is $27. Also found in the vehicle was a bag containing one-fourth pound of marijuana prepackaged for sale. A passenger was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to sell. The marijuana and paraphernalia is valued at $422.
A vehicle was checked on radar going 81 mph in a 65 mph zone at 2:34 p.m. Nov. 8 at K-15 and milemarker 142. The driver attempted to flee by passing vehicles at a high rate of speed. A chase ensued. The driver stopped and Deputy Vineski found the driver's license to be suspended.
Sometime between Oct. 29 and Nov. 1, unknown persons broke the windshield of a truck belonging to Sure-Wood Spec., 823 North Abilene, Durham. The windshield is valued at $350, reports Deputy Larry Starkey.
Donald Rosine, 2125 70th, Peabody, discovered one of his cows at 40th and Old Mill at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 21. The cow was dead and there was a spot on the cow which appeared to be a bullet entry. Rosine stated the cow was for breeding and was due to calve in the spring. The animal is valued at $800, states Deputy Waddell.
Between 9:50 and 11:02 p.m. Nov. 9, two individuals were arguing at Johnson's General Store, Florence. The manager of the store refused to allow the victim to buy gas. As Deputy Vineski conducted the interview, the manager continued to harass the victim.
At 3:29 p.m. Nov. 9, a driver parked a vehicle on Nighthawk just north of 100th. The victim, Patrick A. Glick, 501 Popular, Peabody, was northbound on Nighthawk driving a motorcycle. Glick's motorcycle struck the rear of the vehicle. Glick died as a result of the accident. The driver was charged with vehicular homicide, driving while license suspended, no insurance, illegally parking on roadway, and giving false information regarding the accident, reports Undersheriff Randal Brazil.
Police investigate property damage, theft
Gary Penner reported criminal damage to city property valued at less than $500 on Nov. 8. A subject removed the A Street sign and a stop sign from A Street and Washington, the A Street sign from A Street and Lincoln, the B Street sign from B Street and Washington and from B Street and Lincoln, and a kids at play and a no parking sign from the 300 block of South Washington. Two metal street signs were damaged in the process. The total property damage was $110. Daniel Kinning was the investigating officer.
Dustin D. Altum reported a missing men's BMX bicycle from his front yard Nov. 13. The bicycle is valued at $200. David Funk is the investigating officer.
