Viktoria A. Bichet, 16, 114 S. Date Street, Hillsboro, was traveling southbound and following another vehicle on Indigo near 170th Road in a 1994 Mazda B4000 pickup at 12:30 p.m. July 8. Helmut Wituk, 59, 1781 280th Road, Marion, also was southbound on Indigo behind the Bichet vehicle in a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix and started to pass the pickup when Bichet started to pass the lead vehicle and struck Wituk. Both vehicles went to the right shoulder. Passengers in the Bichet vehicle were Erika Bichet, 9, of the same address, and Natasha Hoffner, 17, 203 Abilene, Durham. The pickup was registered to Stewart Bichet of the same address. Carol Wituk, 48, of the same address, was a passenger in the Wituk vehicle. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Jim Philpott reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
George M. Gore Jr., 46, 671 290th, Durham, was eastbound on 290th near Goldenrod Road on a 1997 Harley Davidson motorcycle at 2:10 p.m. July 8, when three deer entered the roadway. The driver swerved to miss the deer, entered the south ditch and flipped the motorcycle. The motorcycle was registered to Jerry L. Owen of Emporia. Gore was injured but was not transported to a hospital, reported Deputy Philpott.
Joshua J. Wolters, 33, Ellinwood, was southbound on Nighthawk near 80th Road in a 2002 Buick Century at 4:30 p.m. July 14, when a deer came from an east ditch and was struck. Marion County Sheriff Deputy Duane McCarty reported there were no injuries and more than $1,000 in damages.
Leroy Kraus, 50, 1936 Wagonwheel Road, Marion, was southbound on Zebulon near K-150 in a 1999 GMC at 9:15 p.m. July 18, when a deer came from a west ditch and was struck. The driver was not injured and there was more than $1,000 in damages to the vehicle, reported Marion County Sheriff Deputy Larry Starkey.
