Accidents reported
The following accidents were reported to Marion County law enforcement agencies:
Amber R. Spechtenhauser, 16, 405 N. Walnut, Peabody, was westbound on 60th just east of Nighthawk at 7:10 p.m. Aug. 23. Spechtenhauser, driving a 1987 Honda Accord belonging to Larry Larsen of the home, lost control and entered the south ditch, striking a utility pole. Mike Gfeller, 15, 312 N. Walnut, Peabody, was a passenger in the vehicle. No one was injured, reports Undersheriff Randal Brazil.
Stanley E. Foltz, 50, 932 1900 Ave., Abilene, was southbound on K-15 merging onto U.S.-56 heading east at 7:03 p.m. Aug. 19, reports Deputy Mike Vineski. Foltz, driving a 1993 Freightliner belonging to Bert and Wetta, 509 SE 4th, Abilene, was traveling too fast and the vehicle rolled, coming to a stop on the driver's side. No one was injured.
Ryan J. Peters, 27, 716 180th, Hillsboro, was traveling west on 210th at Chisholm at 10 p.m. Aug. 5. A cow came out of the south ditch and was hit by the 2001 Dodge Peters was driving, which belongs to Van Peters, 1875 N. Chisholm Trail, Lehigh. The cow belonged to Tim Goosen, 2172 Falon, Hillsboro. No one was hurt, reports Sergeant Jeff Soyez.
Kenneth Ollenburger, 45, 213 S. Madison, Hillsboro, was northbound on Kanza just north of 280th at 9 p.m. Aug. 19. A calf belonging to Tim Kaufman, 2813 Kanza, Durham, entered the roadway. Ollenburger, driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan, was unable to avoid hitting the animal, reports Deputy Rollin Schmidt. No one was hurt, but the calf was killed.
Tera Lynn Wahl, 19, 207 Erb, Hesston, was eastbound on U.S.-50 just east of Bluestem at 9:07 p.m. Aug. 23 when a deer came into the path. Wahl, driving a 1997 Honda Civic belonging to Tony L. Wahl of the home, was not injured, reports Deputy Don Rosine.
James J. Warren, 44, 127 E. Forrest, Marion, was southbound on Sunflower under the U.S.-56 overpass at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 3. Warren, riding a 1991 Honda Heritage motorcycle, lost control and dumped the bike. The motorcycle is owned by Raymond T. Stanley of Sedgwick. Warren was not injured, reports Deputy Aaron Waddell.
Martha L. Kortje, 75, 108 E. 6th, Peabody, was westbound on W. 5th just west of Main Street, Florence, at 7:43 p.m. Aug. 15. James E. Hill Jr., 13, 609 Main, Florence, was riding a bicycle and came from the north side of the road into the path of the 1993 Buick Regal Kortje was driving. Hill was taken by Florence Ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, reports Deputy Vineski.
Brandon L. Hurt, 19, 105 W. Main, Lincolnville, was entering the intersection of Second and U.S.-56/77, Lincolnville, at 3:35 p.m. Aug. 6 as Matthew J. Marsden, 25, 3793 Pecan Dr., St. George, was traveling north on U.S.-56/77. Hurt, driving a 1998 Chevrolet S-10, stopped at the stop sign then proceeded through the intersection, hitting the 1998 Plymouth Breeze, owned by Marsden. Hurt was taken by Marion Ambulance to St. Luke Hospital, Marion, reports Undersheriff Brazil.
