Albert Miller

Albert E. Gene "Ditty" Miller, 78, of Halstead, died May 27, 2003, at Newton Medical Center in Newton.

Born July 31, 1924, in Newton, he was the son of Charles Joseph and Elizabeth Mona (Corman) Miller.

On Jan. 2, 1947, he married Elizabeth A. "Betty" Schultz in Newton. They later divorced. On Sept. 3, 1968, he married Betty Ilene King.

He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was a retired blacksmith for the Newton Santa Fe Railmill. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Charles and Norman; grandson, Brian Denno; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Keith.

Survivors include his wife, Betty of Goessel; sons, John and Michael of Newton and Bill of Topeka; daughters, Pamela Waltner of Hesston, Paula Flaming of rural Goessel, and Pam Denno of Newton; sister-in-law, Loretta Miller of Newton. nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandson.

Services were held May 31 at Broadway Colonial Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Louise N. MacClanahan officiating. Burial was at Whitewater Cemetery in Whitewater.
